Springfield,
IL
State Representative Rosemary Mulligan (R-Des Plaines)
has been selected to serve on Speaker Michael Madigans
Special Summit on Senior Services. The group will hold meetings
to discuss issues critical to senior citizens.
"I
am honored to have been chosen to participate in the summit,"
said Mulligan. "We are proud of our efforts to expand
Illinoiss Circuit Breaker pharmaceutical assistance
program, which has received enthusiastic national recognition.
We were also successful in persuading the federal government
to use Illinois as the site for the SeniorCare pilot program
and still more needs to be done.
"The
summit will allow members to study in depth the problems
confronting seniors, and we will be using the information
gathered to develop new policies addressing their concerns,"
she added.
The
first meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb.
3 in Room 114 of the State Capitol in Springfield. The first
meeting will focus on lowering the cost of prescription
drugs.
Two
nationally recognized experts will attend and offer testimony,
Mulligan said. They are Richard Cauchi, who monitors state
prescription drug programs for the National Conference of
State Legislatures, and Cheryl Rivers, executive director
of the National Legislative Conference on Prescription Drugs.
The
meeting is the first of several being planned in various
locations throughout the state over the next few months.
