Mulligan:
New Congressional Map Could Spell Trouble for Area Residents

The Illinois House of Representatives passed
a new Congressional map for Illinois today with State Representative
Rosemary Mulligan (R-Des Plaines) casting a "no"
vote in the interests of the communities of the 55th District.
According
to the new Congressional map, the 55th Legislative District
would no longer be part of the 6th Congressional District,
currently represented by Congressman Henry Hyde (R-Wood
Dale). It will now be part of the 9th District represented
by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston). Rep. Mulligan
sites the differences of opinion on the expansion of O'Hare
airport between the two as the reason for her opposition
to the map.
"Representative
Hyde has always seen the expansion of O'Hare Airport as
a danger to our community because of the inevitable increase
in congestion," said Mulligan. "I fear that Representative
Schakowsky is more in tune with Mayor Daley and other proponents
of expansion as the answer to Chicago's growing airport
needs. Unfortunately, that stance is not in tune with our
community."
The
new Congressional map created by House Bill 2917 passed
the House and now heads to Governor's desk to be signed
into law.
